Tuesday night on the southbound I-5 Freeway just south of Brookhurst Street, tragedy struck after the driver of a Chevy Malibu travelling at high speed lost control and crashed into a pole. The crash occurred around 7:40 p.m. Crews arrived on the scene and rushed the driver to an area hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, others worked to free the passenger who was trapped in the wreckage. Unfortunately, after 30 minutes of cutting away at the vehicle, the passenger was freed from the wreckage but pronounced dead on the scene.
Witnesses accounts say that the vehicle was travelling over 100 MPH when it lost control and collided with the pole. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash, with speed being weighed as a potential factor.
