3 Dead In Southern California Freeway Incident, DUI Arrest Made

A serious accident on the 10 freeway left at least three people dead and two in the hospital. The incident occurred just after 1:00, and involved several tractor trailers. It happened in the westbound lanes near the junction to Interstate 15.

A witness to the crash gave a detailed account from what he saw: A red semi-truck lumbered carelessly through the heavy traffic without braking.

“I was standing outside talking to a friend of mine in the parking lot facing the freeway and the red truck was traveling at a high rate of speed when everyone else was stopped,” Jason Calmelat said when questioned. “He didn’t try to slow down. He just went full force into the back of another truck, crushing two other cars.”

The accident apparently resulted in a massive fireball. CHP officials claim that the 21 year old driver of the tractor trailer was arrested while under the influence. Drugs are believed to be a factor in the cause of the crash.

Footage from Sky5 displayed four tractor trailers and multiple cars piled up. One vehicle was unidentifiable due to being burned to a crisp.

The collision caused a closure of all lanes traveling westbound on the 10, except for the FasTrak. This caused long backups that extended far into the Inland Empire.
