A 69-year-old woman was killed by a garbage truck while attempting to cross the intersection of South Shelton and Bishop streets in Santa Ana this past Wednesday.
The incident was reported early in the morning, with officers arriving at the scene around 7:56 AM. Despite paramedics and emergency services being dispatched to the area, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified as Maria Rubalcava de Ruesga of Santa Ana.
Investigators say that the garbage truck was heading eastbound on Bishop Street just before making a right turn at a roundabout onto South Shelton Street. The truck then struck Rubalcava de Ruesga as she was attempting to cross the street.
The driver remained at the scene according to police, and was fully cooperative.
