Costa Mesa Fire Chief Dies 2-Day After Being Struck By Suspected DUI

Mike Kreza, A Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue captain, has passed away as a result of his injuries, two days after being struck by a suspected DUI driver. The incident happened around 8 am on Saturday, November 3rd, near Via Burgos.

The off-duty victim was riding his bicycle on Alicia Parkway when he was struck by 25-year-old, Stephen Scarpa. The driver of the van that struck the fire chief remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI. The driver was also in possession of prescription pills at the time of the incident.
