A devastating semi-truck crash on the 210 Freeway in Irwindale left one woman dead and dozens of others injured after a big rig crossed the center divider and collided with westbound traffic.
The crash happened Saturday morning near Irwindale Avenue. According to reports, the semi-truck was traveling eastbound when it crossed through the center median and entered the westbound lanes, where it struck multiple vehicles. Emergency crews responded to what was later described as a mass-casualty incident due to the number of people hurt.
One woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Multiple others were transported to local hospitals, including two people who were reported to be in critical condition. Several minors were also among those injured. Additional crash victims reported injuries but declined ambulance transport.
Images from the scene showed a heavily damaged semi-truck and multiple vehicles involved in the collision. The truck was reportedly pulling a Target-branded trailer, though Target stated that the vehicle was being operated by a third-party carrier.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the woman who died.
Crashes involving commercial trucks can be especially catastrophic because of the size and weight of these vehicles. When a semi-truck crosses into oncoming traffic, the results can be life-changing for victims and their families. Investigations into these incidents often look at driver behavior, vehicle maintenance, roadway conditions, company safety practices, and whether any third parties may share responsibility.
Anyone injured in a serious truck accident should seek medical care right away and avoid speaking with insurance companies before understanding their legal rights. Evidence can disappear quickly after a crash, including vehicle data, maintenance records, dashcam footage, witness statements, and driver logs.
