In the early hours of Sunday morning (approximately 2 am), a car accident occurred on the connector from northbound 5 to southbound 55 freeway in Tustin. The driver was later identified as David Grubbs. Callers who witnessed the events leading up to the crash said they saw his car doing (what looked like) speeds in excess of 100 mph.
The car lost control and went into the embankment and struck a tree. The car landed upside down and heavily damaged. The driver was flung from the wreck.
